Review: Shakespeare in Love (1998)

I watched the movie Shakespeare in Love (1998) and I loved it. Shakespeare in Love is filled with romance and comedy. It’s a movie that I think a lot of people will love to watch.

In the start of the movie William Shakespeare is the playwright who tries to write a play for the Rose theater. Shakespeare falls in love with a woman named Viola De Lesseps while he writes the play. Shakespeare’s time with Viola shapes him and the play that he writes… the play that many people know called Romeo and Juliet.

Viola loves the theater and becomes an actor in the play Romeo and Juliet. At the end of the movie Viola plays Juliet and Shakespeare plays Romeo. The ending scenes of the movie are beautiful and touching.

I think the stand-out thing about the movie is the actor named Joseph Fiennes. Joseph Fiennes plays William Shakespeare. Fiennes is exuberant, wild and filled with life. He has a roguish look to him. He has charm. I loved how Fiennes plays the role of William Shakespeare. I think he is perfect for this role.

The one problem I have with the movie is the end of it. I don’t like how Shakespeare in Love ends. The movie has a sad ending.

I think Shakespeare in Love is a secret on-screen gem. It is a great movie to watch.

I hope you enjoyed this review.

Until next time…

Luca Lane
