If you want to watch this movie, Jackie (2016), then, you need to watch out. This is a tear-jerker. So, what is this movie about?
Jackie is a movie about Jacqueline Kennedy. Jacqueline Kennedy was the wife of the 35th president of the United States of America. That president is named John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 1963. However, this movie is not about John F. Kennedy. It is not about John F. Kennedy’s time in the oval office. It is not about John F. Kennedy’s murderer, Lee Harvey Oswald. It is all about Jackie Kennedy… right after her husband is murdered.
That should tell you a lot right there. This movie is grim. This movie is tragic. This movie is not something for the faint-of-heart. I did not like this movie. I did not know much about this movie before I watched it. I thought it would be about Jacqueline Kennedy’s life and, then, her time as the First Lady of the United States of America. I assumed John F. Kennedy’s assassination would be a big part of the movie; however, I did not think that the movie would be solely about Jacqueline Kennedy’s time immediately after her husband’s murder. My expectations were not met. I thought the film would be something sad with some sort of silver-lining in the horizon. That was not the case.
Overall, I thought the movie was too sad. It was too miserable. However, the one good thing about this movie is the actress who plays Jacqueline Kennedy. That actress is named Natalie Portman. You may know Natalie Portman from her movie role in the Star Wars films as the main character named Padmé Amidala. In this movie, Natalie Portman is beautiful and cold. Yet, she is filled with a darkness. She does the movie role of Jacqueline Kennedy justice.
Again, I will say that I disliked this movie. It was not something that I will watch again. Sometimes you want a tear-jerker movie to watch though. If that is what you are in the mood for, then, this is the movie that you should watch.
So, what’s the verdict?
I give this movie a 5/10. If I’m honest, then, I will say that Natalie Portman’s portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy is what raised the score to that level.
That is all for this update. I will see you in my next movie review.
