Here are a list of movies that focus on African-Americans

Our country is going through a great deal of things right now. There is a lot of things in the news about the Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement is an important thing. The Black Lives Matter movement is about an injustice that happened to an African-American man named George Floyd. Floyd was killed by mistake when an American police-officer tried to subdue Floyd.

It is vital that we discuss this horrific event. It reflects the racism and the injustice that is prevalent in America. That is why I want to talk to you about a list of movies and one television show that focuses on African-American lives. I think you should really check these out. At the end of the day all of these shows will reflect the lives and struggles of African-Americans everywhere.

  1. Roots (2016)

The first series of movies that I want to talk about is the mini-series named Roots. Roots is a mini-series that came out in 2016. It is a serious and touching mini-series. Roots is about an African man named Kunta Kinte. Kunta Kinte is stolen from his home in Africa. He is taken on-board a ship as a slave. Kunta Kinte is forced to be a slave in America all of his life. He gets married. He has a family. And he spends his whole life dreaming of freedom.

2. Harriet (2019)

Harriet is about the African-American hero named Harriet Tubman. Harriet is a woman who escapes slavery. She runs away to the North. She makes a life for herself there. However, she is still not happy. She remembers her family who are still slaves.

Harriet decides to return to the south to rescue her family. After she frees her family she decides to continue to free other slaves. She continues to free a great deal of slaves. She brings them north to freedom.

Harriet is the founding member of the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad is a series of homes where slaves went to hide from the slavers that searched for them. The homes were owned by southerners who believed that slavery was evil.

3. Save the Last Dance (2001)

Save the Last Dance is surprising movie from the early 2000’s. Save the Last Dance is a romantic movie. Save the Last Dance is about a girl named Sarah Johnson. Sarah’s dream is be a dancer at Julliard. On the day of Sarah’s audition Sarah’s mom dies. Sarah must move into her father’s home. She must live in a new town that is unlike her old town.

Sarah is one of a small group of white students in a predominantly black neighborhood. Sarah must grew accustomed to her new home where she is the minority. She eventually makes friends with her classmates. She even meets a boy who teaches her how to dance in a new way. She takes these new dance movies to her next audition at Julliard.

It is true that Save the Last Dance is a movie about dance; however, it is also a movie about white people and black people who overcome each of his or her differences to live and to love together. Sarah learns that it is okay to love someone who is black despite all of the obstacles that are in his and her way.

4. Step Sisters (2018)

Step Sisters is a movie about an African-American woman named Jamilah. Jamilah is a respected and accomplished college student. She is the president of her African-American sorority. She is the captain of her step team. She plans to go to Harvard University Law School.

Jamilah is told that she must teach a white sorority to step. Step is a traditional African-American way of dance. Jamilah has to help the girls in the white sorority to win a competitive step competition.

Step Sisters is a great movie that shows how the lines that separate African-Americans and white people can blur. Jamilah is a strong African-American woman who acts like a leader. She helps the sorority girls to work-together. She is an example of a strong African-American woman. Step Sisters shows us that we can all be friends with each other despite the color of our skin.

I hope you check-out these shows. They will help you to learn and to see the world through another perspective. I will make more updates like this in the future. I hope you like this post.
