Classic Christmas movies for you and for your family to enjoy

  1. It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

I put “It’s a Wonderful Life” on this list because it is one of the most well-known classic Christmas movies. However, it’s not the best movie on this list. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is about a man with big dreams. His dreams aren’t fulfilled… but he has touched the lives of everyone in the town in some way or another. When a problem arises the man’s friends and family come together to help him out.

2. White Christmas (1954)

“White Christmas” is a classic movie that stars Bing Crosby. “White Christmas” is about two men named Bob Wallace and Phillip Davis. It is also about two sisters. The sisters are named Betty Haynes and Judy Haynes. Wallace and Davis were privates in the army together. Wallace and Davis form a singing act after they leave the army.

Betty Haynes and Judy Haynes are two singers. They meet Wallace and Davis one night during one of the two’s acts. They convince Wallace and Davis to go to Vermont with them on Christmas.

There is romance in the movie between Wallace and Betty, as well as between Davis and Judy. There is also Wallace and Davis’ old army general who is named Major General Waverly. Major General Waverly is down on his luck. The foursome come together to do a show for General Waverly to encourage him and to inspire him.

3. Little Women (1994)

“Little Women” is about four sisters. The four sisters are named Meg March, Josephine March, Amy March, and Beth March. In “Little Women” the four sisters live during the Civil War. The four live and love together as the four’s lives change. The four travel places, learn things, and find their true loves. “Little Women” also has an inspiring Christmas scene where the four March sisters do an act of kindness for a poor family. It is a great family movie for you to watch during this time of the year.

4. A Christmas Carol (1999)

I love this movie. “A Christmas Carol” is a movie that stars the actor that is named Patrick Stewart. In the movie Patrick Stewart plays the man who is named Ebenezer Scrooge. Ebenezer is a rich man. He hates Christmas and he hates the poor. Scrooge is visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve.

One of the first ghosts that visits him is his old friend who is named Jacob Marley. The ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future also visit him after Marley leaves. The try to show Scrooge the errors of his ways and the repercussions of his greed before it is too late.

“A Christmas Carol” is based-off of a book of the same name. The author of the book is named Charles Dickens. There are two well-known movies that are named, “A Christmas Carol.” There is a CGI version of the movie that was made in 2009. However, I prefer the 1994 live-action movie that stars Patrick Stewart.

The movie is heartwarming and kid-friendly. You should give it a try.

5. Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)

“Meet Me in St. Louis” is another great family film. “Meet Me in St. Louis” stars the actress that is named Judy Garland. Judy Garland is well-known for her movie role as “Dorothy” in the movie that is named “The Wizard of Oz.”

In “Meet Me in St. Louis” there is the Smith family. There are five children in the Smith household. There is Esther Smith, Rose Smith, Alonzo Smith, Agnes Smith, and “Tootie” Smith. The five children get into mischief. They laugh, they argue, and they fall-in-love. The three elder Smith children go to a special Christmas party during the sibling’s last Christmas in St. Louis. It is a fun and a memorable night.

I hope you give these Christmas movies a try. They might be just what you need to brighten-up your Christmas.
