Hit-movies for young adults (and for the grown-ups that love them, too)

It is almost the beginning of October. Do you know what that means? It means that Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season will be upon us before we know it. Now, what people need to do is to relax and to get ready for the chaotic Christmas season that’s ahead of us. There are some great movies out that that are focused on young adults that I think they can enjoy before the chaos starts… movies that I think adults will enjoy, too. Here is a list of four fun and fresh movies for you to check-out. Trust me… they’re just what you need to take a breather and to laugh out loud.

  1. LOL (2012)

LOL is a young-adult movie that I think many people will enjoy even if you’re just young-at-heart. LOL is about a teenager named Lola… or LOL. Lola is played by the Disney actress and singer who is named Miley Cyrus.

Lola is a fun and a spirited cool-girl. We watch as Lola falls in-and-out of love with two boys. Lola wants to believe that her current love-interest, Kyle, is the guy for her… if only the signs didn’t point toward “cheating.” Lola is trying to figure-it-out while living under her mom’s rules and her mom’s demands (Demi Moore plays Anne who is Lola’s mother).

LOL is a fun movie that young people will be able to relate to. It’s something that other people will be able to enjoy, too.

2. The Edge of Seventeen (2016)

I highly recommend that you watch the movie that is named, “The Edge of Seventeen.” “The Edge of Seventeen” stars two girls. One girl is named Nadine. Nadine is played by the actress named Hailee Steinfeld. The other girl is Nadine’s best-friend. Nadine’s best-friend is named Krista. She is played by Haley Lu Richardson.

After one drunk night Krista falls into bed with Nadine’s brother. Nadine’s brother is named Darien. Darien then asks Krista to be “official” with him. It seems like Krista’s social calendar is on the brink of exploding. Nadine is not okay with that.

Nadine is a smart, a spontaneous, and a nervous person. In this movie we watch as she tries to live in a world without her best-friend or her brother.

Overall, I think this is a hilarious movie about an awkward but love-able girl at heart. I think many people will find the movie to be laugh-out-loud funny.

3. After (2019)

“After” is a romantic movie that I think will be very popular movie to many young people out there. “After” is about a girl named Tessa Young. Tessa meets a boy named Hardin Scott at college. At first Tessa and Hardin do not get along. In fact, it seems like the two may hate one another. However, things change between the two of them. Tessa and Hardin both act like they’re in-love. They both act like their relationship is something special.

However, there are other people in the mix… and there are past decisions that need to be spoken of. Tess and Hardin need to come clean with one another if the two’s love can have a chance.

The movie “After” also has sequels available on the Netflix television streaming service. The sequels are named “After We Collided” and “After We Fell.”

4. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is an “oldie but a goodie.” Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is about a popular and well-liked boy named Ferris Bueller. Ferris has a best-friend named Cameron. Ferris also has a girlfriend who is named Sloane Stevens.

Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane decide to ditch school for a day. Ferris pretends to be sick and fools his parents after creating an elaborate display. He then takes Cameron and Sloane into the City.

However, there is one person who does not think Ferris Bueller is as innocent as he seems to be. That person is the principal of Ferris’ high-school. His name is Ed Rooney. Ed tries to find Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane as the three students act out without any restrictions.

This movie is a funny movie with a lot of spirit. I think it is an essential movie for any young person to watch. It is also a classic movie that I think adults will appreciate. After all… don’t we all dream of our own ditch-day and “day off” from the normal grind?

I hope you enjoy these movies. They’re some great films to get into before the holiday season starts and we are bombarded with Best Buy commercials, inflatable reindeer on our neighbor’s lawns, and even replays of that sad-but-actually-much-too-sad Christmas Shoes song.

  1. I haven’t seen many of these movies but I remember the movie, “LOL.” I thought Miley Cyrus was great in that movie. I have Netflix and “After” is already in my queue to watch. Nice post.

  2. The only movie that I have seen on this list is the movie named “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” I enjoyed that movie. I think I will watch the other movies that you recommend. They sound promising.

  3. Miley Cyrus was love-able and fun in the movie “LOL.” That movie has a completely different feeling compared to “After” but I like both movies. This is a good rec list.
