Review: Dune (2021)

I watched the movie, “Dune,” in movie theaters this weekend. It was a great movie that I really enjoyed. “Dune” was a dark and atmospheric type of movie.

It is also a very political movie. The movie is about a family named Atreides. The son of the Atreides family is named Paul Atreides. The actor named Timothée Chalamet is Paul Atreides.

Paul Atreides is the son of a woman named Lady Jessica. Lady Jessica is a Bene Gesserit. A Bene Gesserit is a clan of women who have mystical abilities. Lady Jessica was not supposed to have a son. However, her love for her husband, Leto, convinced Lady Jessica to have her son.

Paul Atreides has the mystical abilities that her mother and other aides trained him to have within himself. He is rumored to be the “The One” who will lead the planet Arrakis to peace. “The One” will have the power to look to the future, to the past, and all throughout space and time. Paul goes through a deadly test early on to prove that he is “The One” to the other Bene Gesserit women. Paul passes the test before he travels to the planet Arrakis with his family.

When Paul Atreides is on Arrakis a family known as the House Harkkonnen plans to kill him and his family. However, Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Jessica, escape the evil plans of House Harkkonnen.

“Dune” is a movie based off of the popular science-fiction book series of the same name. The author, Frank Herbert, wrote the book series in the year 1965.

I think Timothée Chalamet did a great job as Paul Atreides. You get goosebumps when the Atreides armies yell out the Atreides name in unison. Paule Atreides is smart, powerful, and deadly. He has an unassuming manner… but he has strong magic hidden inside.

I give this movie a 4-star rating.

The second movie in this franchise will be released on October 20, 2023. I will definitely be in the movie theaters to watch the second “Dune” movie when it is out.
